Why Techniques Cannot Give Enlightenment [Questioner] Now my question: Do you think it's necessary to continually 'train' the mind (heart/mind) through a method of formal practice? Yes, if you want certain benefits and no, not for enlightenment - the one thing which is effortless and paradoxically *demands* no effort to be achieved. [Oshana] Techniques can be great for working on the mental, emotional and physical bodies. For example, qigong, a form of moving meditation can produce health benefits, e.g it calms the mind, opens the lungs and release trapped emotions. But they won't produce enlightenment. Because using the mental, phsyical and emotional bodies only provides them with exercise, and creates too much focus upon them. Liberation is when the Self (You) is revealed to be uninvolved in anything seen or witnessed. [Source: Oshana Mailing List] |
