Successful Seeking - Handling the Fear Factor
In response to a seeker's issue of the ever-present fear factor in daily life and the spiritual search, Enlightenment Teacher Oshana asks with keen precision:
"If you knew that you could never be wiped out or destroyed then what could there ever be to fear?"
"The old life is worth giving up for the spirit of enlightenment to enter."
"I declare that enlightenment is here and now, and every resource possible is available to support you."
The seeker's email:
Subject: before words
Upon reading your latest replies (Oshana list], specifically the part about giving up your whole life for enlightenment, I sensed a tightening in my chest in throat, which I equate with fear.
How can I work on this? It's a fear that comes before words and explanations (mine and possibly yours too).
Hi .... [Female E-Potential, USA]
Fear is a reaction of the mind concerned with survival.
It can be an over-reaction which hinders the flight/fight response, and actually decreases the chance of survival whether that be to avoid a fatal situation or simply get a high grade average for in the college exams.
Fear can spiral out of control just at the time when you need to make clear decisions, and take appropriate and massive action. When it causes a system shut-down it is like an allergic reaction caused by the release of too much histamine hormone. Histamine in appropriate quantities creates a detox effect - runny nose, watery eyes - but in extremis can lead to a deadly allergic complication which kills an estimated 4000 Americans yearly, i.e. asthma.
Fear should simply be an intuitive flag that indicates to the conscious mind that there is the possibility of danger. It should not be a chronic, recursive cycle of unending worry, tension and hopelessness. That cycle is created not by intuition, but mental processes, which in some cases are inaccurate and inappropriate.
When fear is generated by the mind it is being handled by the wrong department. This is just one of the many psych-pathologies that the "treatment" of repeated *healthy* states of thoughtless awareness, no-mind, can cure.
The over-burdened mind, having more responsibilities and tasks that it can effectively cope with, will breakdown, and stress is just one symptom. No-mind is a solution, but it must be a healthy no-mind not a state created by 'spacing out', escapist fantasising or substance abuse. Enlightenment-Transmission-created no-mind is healthy no-mind.
For the "mind" (read "ego-component") that believes its survival to be a dependant upon the correct functioning and behavioural appropriateness of a human body lost within a vast and unknown created universe - it is amazing and laudable that it does not die from fear within moments of recognising the immensity of its actual situation. But the human being protects it's frail sensitivity by various escapist deployments.
Humans also have a natural resilience born not of the mind but the soul (or self).
The example is there for all to see who have eyes to see and *use* them in babies. No fear there. Only boundless courage, joy and enthusiasm.
This courage exists inside everyone. It is the unconscious realisation that one is meant to be in existence and is part of the Whole. Enlightenment happens when that unconscious awareness of the whole becomes fully conscious and present.
If you knew that you could never be wiped out or destroyed then what could there ever be to fear?
But first you have to invite in your fears, and the attendant symptoms of discomfort. They have always been there awaiting your attention. In maturity, you can relieve them of their burden to deliver their outdated and irrelevant messages which were based on an erroneous misunderstanding of your being a temporary, finite life that was born and will die.
First face your fear. It is preventing your life moving forward. You can decide if the fear is keeping you out of danger or keeping you out of having a full life program. Many times it is.
Danger is always with us. Sometimes we have to face the danger to achieve our goals. This is so much easier when you are in no-mind, and totally achievable when you are enlightened.
The "old life" is worth giving up for the spirit of enlightenment to enter. What was that "old life" but misery, despair and fear? What is the new enlightened life but awareness, understanding, meaningfulness and bliss?
This is the cost-analysis that all enlightenment potentials should make - now. Because the only thing that stands between you and the receipt of enlightenment is that you are not taking it.
I declare that enlightenment is here and now, and every resource possible is available to support you.
Get it now.
