There is no transcendence. You don't go anywhere. You only cease to identify with the false identity. It happens naturally. You don't even need to have a concept about what will happen.

Ego is Identification - Forget the Concept

[Oshana] Sky,

[sky] High Oshana,

You wrote,

"The focus is on getting the enquirer to see, as quickly as possible, "Who am I", or put another way, to dis-identify with who they thought they were."

You thus seem to be putting the emphasis in "enlightenment," on ego transcendence. This is obviously perhaps the most common thread in spirituality based enlightenment thinking. But I have a different take which I hope you'll comment on.

[Oshana] There is no transcendence. You don't go anywhere. You only cease to identify with the false identity. It happens naturally. You don't even need to have a concept about what will happen. In the Dialogue you just look, i.e. see what is there.

[sky] For me, the "ego" is irrelevant in the sense that I believe the real and most direct issues center around feelings associated with love and power.

[Oshana] What do you mean by issues? Issues for who?

[sky] Perhaps "ego" is an obsession with personal power, but to focus on that negative, I believe, is like trying to look more intensely at the darkness, in order to banish it. Better to turn on the light.

[Oshana] Yes, of course and why not? Ego here means identification with personal things like mind &body not "an obsession with personal power".

[sky] For me, finding the light means simply focusing on feelings of sensitivity, empathy, gentleness, warmth, as far as the love side is concerned. On the power side, exuberance, fun, novelty, joi de vivre are the lights that banish any quest for power at another's expense.

[Oshana] Nothing wrong with that. How is it going?

[sky] I'm interested in your take on this. love, sky
